Make-and-take classes are so much fun! They make the countless hours of planning and inviting totally worth it. Unfortunately though they can take a lot of time to plan and it costs money to buy all of the supplies. If you’re ready to work your bootie off and have tons of fun, keep reading!
Should you Host a Make-and-Take Class?
I think everyone should host a make-and-take class at least once a month if you have the time and money for it. You must make people pay to come to the class or else you are going to lose a lot of cash. I usually charge $20 a person to come to a make-and-take class and I usually break even. These classes are not going to make you money (immediately), but they are a blast!
Do you have the time and money? Great! Let’s continue.
Why you Should Host a Make-and-Take Class
Make and take classes switch things up and get people excited about essential oils. Instead of making people sit and listen to you talk, this allows them to get up and actually put the oils into action. They also get to take the things home that they made which means they are using oils more and falling in love with them.
Book in Advance
I like to book all of my classes 4 – 5 months in advance and make invitation cards out of them. Here is an example of what I did last year (sorry it’s a bit blurry):
I ordered my invitation cards from VistaPrint, but I’m sure you could easily make your own to save some money!
It is also important to set up a Facebook event so that you can invite your Facebook friends. Make sure you invite at least 2 weeks in advance and post on your event page daily to keep people excited!
Here is an example of an online invitation:
Pick your Theme
There are tons of theme ideas out there! Here are a few:
- Pamper Me – Lavender bath salts, bubble bath, and perfume
- For the Men – Make your man some beard balm and cologne
- Love is in the Air – Massage oils anyone? 😉
- Toxic Free Cleaning – Thieves cleaner, scrub, and hand soap
- Fall Wonderland – Monster repellent (bedtime spray), lip balm, and chocolate bark
- Toxic free beauty – Lotion, facial cleanser, and moisturizer
- Winter Wonderland – Immune boosting items like hand gel and shower bombs
You can literally come up with whatever you want! Just writing these out made me super excited to have my next make-and-take party!
Buy your Supplies
Once you know what you are going to make at your class, you need to buy the supplies. This means that you need to find a recipe (or come up with one)! Trust me. It’s not hard! Recipes are everywhere.
I buy all of my supplies off of Amazon. It is so much easier to just search what I need and order it than walking around all over Walmart looking for supplies (that they usually don’t have).
Here are some of my favorite supplies to get off of Amazon:
- Beeswax – for lip balm, lotions, and bars
- Shea Butter – for lip balm, lotions, creams, and bars
- Pipets – for everything! This is a must have.
- Lip Balm Tubes – for… lip balm
- Roller Bottles – to make perfume and oil blends (great giveaways!)
- Coconut oil – to put in the roller bottles
- Labels – for labeling products so that you don’t forget what they are
50 lip balm tubes for $8.35?! Mhm!! I love you Amazon.
Now… when you toss down $100 for supplies you might feel like crying. I feel you girl! My first make and take I told my husband that it was a horrible idea and I was never doing one ever again (and then I had a blast and had a few more)! Just make sure you get at least 5 people to come to your class to pay for that supplies. Just as a side note. If you don’t have $100 to spend on supplies, just do a small make and take class! Lip balm is super cheap and always a huge hit.
Extra Party Planning
Are you going to have a short presentation? I recommend doing this if most people at your class have not come to your 101 classes. Tell them what oils are, where they come from, how to use them and then explain the Starter Kit. Take about 10 minutes to do this and then get to making stuff!
Are you going to have snacks? I do not recommend having snacks unless you really want to, but you
already forked down about $100 to have this class. They will survive the next hour without food….
Are you going to have prizes? DO THIS! This is a great way to get information from new people who you have never met. This is another good reason to have a make-and-take. People will invite their friends to these because they are super fun! Have a small giveaway (Thieves cleaner or a roller bottle) and collect names and addresses and if they would be interested in learning more. Boom!
Do not forget to invite people! Invite a lot of people because most of them won’t show up. It really stinks spending a bunch of money on a make-and-take class and then no one shows up and you have to eat all
of the chocolate bark by yourself…. Actually that part is okay.
The Big Day
Here are a few more things to prepare for the big day!
- Make every single item you are going to have your friends make so that they can see what it issupposed to look like.
- Print instructions and leave them next to each “station.”
- Set up “stations” for each item. Only have a few people at each station at a time so that it does not get crowded. (You can see in the picture to the right that I have multiple different stations).
- Make sure you set out paper towels, pipets, paper plates, labels, markers and whatever else is needed!
Are you excited to have your first make-and-take class? What theme did you chose?
