Lately the FDA has been cracking down on essential oil companies because of distributors making false or unsafe claims about essential oils. It is very important for us distributors to make sure we are following the guidelines so that we don’t get others hurt or get the company in trouble.
Also keep in mind that if you get flagged as not being FDA compliant, you can get your account shut down. We don’t want that!
Let’s start with a list of thing that you can’t say as an essential oil distributor.
- Say an oil or product treats, cures or prevents any disease
- Claim something that can’t be backed up by scientific studies
- Say that a product can replace over the counter drugs or supplement a medical treatment
Words to avoid:
Disease claims can look like:
- Heart attack
- High blood pressure
So you’re probably having a little panic attack. How are you supposed to talk about these amazing products that have changed your life?? Don’t worry! It’s easy.
Do say the product helps support:
- Overall wellness
- Systems of the body (Immune System, Endocrine System, Muscular System, etc.)
- Skin health
- Age related conditions
- Occasional emotions (sadness not depression)
Here is an example of something you can say. “Orange oil has vitamin C which has been shown to help support the immune system and promote healthy skin.” Wallah!
Don’t pinpoint one issue. State that the product can support the immune system, the respiratory system, and so on.
When you become a part of my team you will get an FDA compliment script and PowerPoint so that your classes are always compliant!
Be careful as to what you are sharing, liking, and commenting on on social media. Don’t worry about past posts before becoming a Young Living distributor. What you post after is what counts!
It can be hard to be FDA compliant. I’m actually thinking of a few blog posts I might need to fix! But it’s important that we are compliant to avoid issues in the future.
