Sometimes it’s hard to treat your MLM business like a real business. Why? Because you can set your own hours. You don’t have to show up because you’re your own boss. Is this you? You sit down at your laptop and then your husband needs your help with something. Or you forgot to start the dishwasher. Or you forgot that you were supposed to call your mom this morning. You go finish that task and then you realize the day is already gone because you got distracted. How do you treat your business like a real business?
For one, I am not saying your MLM business is not a real business. I think sometimes we forgot that it is because it doesn’t feel like work. You’re doing something you love, so it’s easy to put it off and not work as hard as you should. It should be fun, but it also needs to be work! You can’t make a full time income from your business if you’re not putting full time work into it (at first).
Have a Schedule
The number one thing you need to do to is set your own hours. Would you just not go to work one day if you worked in an office? Naw. You would get fired. So set a schedule!
Maybe you are the type of person that likes to follow a super strict schedule. You wake up every day at 7:30, eat at 7:45, take a shower at 8:00 etc. That is awesome! Some people work really well this way.
Sometimes though, schedules can throw people off. I am the type of person that cannot follow a schedule or else I feel stressed out and get nothing done and have a horrible day! If this is you, I recommend you set a light schedule meaning, you make a to do list and the night before you set a time for when you would like to start working on that to do list and you work until you get it done!
I also recommend setting a certain amount of hours you would like to work everyday and try really hard to hit that goal!
You need a planner! These are my favorites. My planner holds everything I have to do for the day, plus helps keep my mind on track.
Don’t Work in your Pajamas….
This is a little silly, but would you go to your office job in Pajamas? No! You would get laughed at (unless your job is to try on pajamas…). So why would you work at home in your pajamas?
I personally would not be able to stay awake if I kept my pajamas on all day while working on my business. They make me tired! That’s why you’re supposed to wear them to bed and to bed ONLY (also don’t wear pajamas to Walmart. Okay?).
Don’t get me wrong, some days it’s nice to just get out of bed, brush my teeth, and get to work, but not most days.
Do Your Work in a Secluded Area
You don’t need a fancy office area in order to have a network marketing business. While that’s nice and all, most of us can’t just throw down money for a new desk.
Find a place (either in your home, at a coffee shop, or library) to call “your space” when you work. Make it a quiet spot so that you don’t get distracted. If you have kids or a husband, let them know that when you are in this space, it is time for you to work!
Turn off the Cell Phone and Avoid Distractions
Lastly, put away your cell phone (or promise not to open up YouTube) if you need some solid focus. When I sit down to write a blog, I often get writer’s block and then decide to watch a random YouTube video…. Bad idea, sister! 3 hours later I remember I was working on a blog and then I just decide to finish it tomorrow.
Of course if you are using your cell phone to make follow up calls or call clients, get out your phone, but if you don’t need it, shut it down.
What else distracts you? Figure out what stops you from getting things done and get rid of it when you’re working!
I also usually get distracted when trying to focus on my business. Because of this, I keep my personal planner next to me at all times so when I think of something I have to do later, I can write it down and move on.
I hope these simple tips helped you realize you need a little bit more structure when it comes to managing your MLM business.
