I get this question often and I understand why! Essential oil diffusers can be expensive. So why spend $60 on a diffuser that spits out vapor just like a humidifier? It works the same way right? The short answer to this questions is, yes. You could use a humidifier as a diffuser, but should you?
Let’s look at how diffusers work. Diffusers were made with essential oils in mind. The point of a diffuser is to break the essential oil molecules into even smaller molecules and disperse them into the air so that they are easily absorbed by our bodies.
Diffusing not only helps your house smell nice, but give you a dose of essential oils that have the power to support the systems of your body and even your emotions!
Humidifiers were made with water in mind. They won’t break down your oils so your body will not absorb then as easily. The oils also may break down the inside of your humidifier because humidifiers, once again, are not built to hold essential oils. Also keep in mind that some humidifiers heat the water which will destroy the essential oil properties.
Diffusers for the Win!
Basically, if you want the therapeutic benefits of essential oils, you need a diffuser. If you just want your house to smell nice and you don’t care if the essential oils eat through your humidifier, feel free to try it! Remember that diffusers were made with essential oils in mind. Humidifiers were made for water.
My favorite diffuser is the Dewdrop diffuser that comes with the Premium Starter Kit. This is the cheapest way to get a diffuser and a bunch of new oils to try! To learn more about it, go here!
