Castile soap is absolutely amazing! It’s all natural and can be used to clean just about anything. You can use it as shampoo, window cleaner, dish soap, and more! Today I want to show you why it’s amazing, how you can use Castile soap and ditch the toxic garbage you have in your home!
What is it made out of?
There are many different brands of castile soap out there, but my favorite is Dr.Bronner’s. I used to get a different brand that was cheaper, but once I tried Dr. Bronners, I’ll never go back! It’s much thicker, it lathers much better, and it smells better too! Plus they have so many different scents! My favorites are Citrus, Rose, and Peppermint.
Let’s look at the ingredients:
“Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic fairDeal Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol
* CERTIFIED FAIR TRADE INGREDIENT
** None remains after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin”
I was concerned about the potassium hydroxide (or lye) but as is says below the ingredients, none remains after the saponification process (when the soap is cooked). I have done plenty of research on this subject and have decided it is safe for my family. Please do research for yourself!
Those ingredients are just flat out amazing!! It’s basically just a bunch of saponified oils and essential oils. Boom! That’s how all soap should be!
What can you use it for?
Uhhhh…. Everything. Lol! But seriously….
These are just a few awesome recipes, but the possibilities are endless.
All – Purpose Cleaning
Just add ¼ cup and a quart of water in a spray bottle! You can also add tea tree essential oil (or any oil you want). Also try Thieves blend! 1
Fruit and Veggie Rinse
Add one little “dash: to a bowl of water, scrub your fruits and veggies and then rinse! 1
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
The ratio for this one is 1 part soap and 4 parts water in a squirt bottle! You can ofcourse add essential oils like Tea Tree or Thieves. “Empty toilet, squirt bowl thoroughly, sprinkle baking soda on the brush, scrub bowl, let sit 10 minutes, turn water on, flush.” 1
I know… it’s a little awkward, but this wash sounds so luxurious! I mean common… rose water?! Yes please! It also helps balance your skin’s Ph! You can even use it for a face wash or hand wash if you wanted to.
Dr. Axe knows what’s up! He recommends to add ¼ cup castile soap in a foaming dispenser and then filling the rest up with water. He then recommends adding 5 drops each of Tea Tree and Frankincense! I am making this ASAP! 2
Homemade Hand Soap
Our conventional hand soaps are full of toxins! Thankfully though, we can make our own natural hand soaps! Fill up a foaming soap dispenser with ¾ boiled or distilled water and ¼ cup liquid Castile soap. He also adds that you can add Tea Tree of even Lavender essential oil! Thieves would of course be another good option. 2
I also use it as a body wash, to shave with, and in my baths! You can also use it in your laundry, to wash your dishes, to clean your windows, and to even brush your teeth! Crazy right?! You can use it for everything!
